Philadelphia is the 8th largest region in the country for STEM employment opportunities, yet there are few options for Philadelphia’s youth to learn the basic skills and education needed to work in these fields (www.us2020.org). Students of color face especially limited opportunities in the technology sector—Coded by Kids estimates that only 4 percent of employed software developers in the United States are African-American, and that only 5 percent are Latino.
Since 1999, Freire Charter School has been a catalyst for unlocking the potential of some of Philadelphia’s most underserved youth. Where many other schools have failed, Freire Charter School has achieved excellence for our children through a rigorous college preparatory program and a commitment to peace and nonviolence in our community – both within our walls and beyond.
TECH Freire takes Freire’s time-tested, rigorous academic program and weaves in education in computer programming and entrepreneurship. At TECH Freire, computer science and entrepreneurship programming does not only teach students valuable skills they will need to thrive in the fast-paced and rewarding workplace of the future. Integrated into Freire’s strong liberal arts curriculum, computer programming and entrepreneurship become powerful tools in the hands of students and teachers as they work together to build their futures.
TECH Freire Charter School provides a college-preparatory learning experience with a focus on individual freedom, critical thinking, and problem solving in an environment that emphasizes the values of community, teamwork, and nonviolence.
TECH Freire Charter School is the power to build your future.
As captured in our vision statement, we can offer your child all of the tools needed for a bright future, but ultimately this success depends on your child taking full advantage of these tools himself or herself.
